In celebration of Women’s Month this August, Creative Feel spoke to one of the South African ceramics industry’s most respected creators and businesswomen, Kim Sacks. We celebrate women’s achievements and the important role that women of all races and religions have played and continue to play in South Africa. We look at the publishing industry and the women who are fighting to grow it and the NAC reflects and takes stock of their progress in terms of gender empowerment. DITSONG: Museums of South Africa delivers a personal reflection on two pieces in their Ceramics and Precious Metal Collection created by women, and Creative Feel delves into South African multimedia artist and gender advocate Gabrielle Goliath’s current exhibition at Standard Bank Gallery. Ashraf Johaardien celebrates the special women in his life, Dave Mann chats to Anastasia Pather in her studio, Indra Wussow reports back on her experience with the Human Library and Michelle Constant pays tribute to Johnny Clegg. Drama for Life and Swedish national theatre Unga Klara partner up at a cutting-edge conference and festival, The Old Man and the Sea shows at The Fugard Theatre and Joburg Ballet presents Giselle. We go behind the scenes with the Cion team at Vuyani Dance Theatre, meet the twelve finalists in SAMRO’s Overseas Scholarships Competition, and look forward to a performance by Megan-Geoffrey Prins at the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra concert series. The Creative Feel team wishes all our readers a very happy Women’s Month, let’s keep pushing for progress, change and exceptional art!
