The Johannesburg-based choir launch their debut album following their victory at the World Choral Cup.
The award-winning South African choir Quava Vocal Group have released their debut album In Your Light, following their successful tour to Italy and Spain in October 2022. The Johannesburg-based choir is now among the top jazz and choral music ensembles in the world, after winning the category for Best Jazz Choir and the Best Adult Choir against 31 choirs from 24 countries at the 2022 World Choral Cup which took place in Europe.
After 12 years of live performance and multiple local and international accolades, Quava (pronounced “quaver”) has presented this album to further cement their place in the global choral scene. The 14-track offering features a varied collection of contemporary jazz, western choral and African music. The group prides itself in maintaining a versatile sound and ability to smoothly transition between various genres which, according to the choir’s award-winning musical director, Sabelo Mthembu, is an epitome of true excellence.
