Africa Open Institute (AOI) has announced the second release on its label, AOI EDITION, titled Too Late for the Prayers.
This second album follows the release of Mantombi Matotiyana: Songs of Greeting, Healing and Heritage and features compositions by Justinian Tamusuza (Uganda) and Michael Blake (South Africa), performed by Marietjie Pauw, Dylan Tabisher and Cherilee Adams. Too Late for Prayers comprises four pieces in total, and features works for solo flute, and duo works for marimba and vibraphone.
The AOI EDITION record label was launched in 2019, following a composers residency in Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study. There are albums planned for release in 2021 and beyond, including ‘The Country Conquerors’ of Greyton, and a solo piano album of Arnold van Wyk’s music by Daniel-Ben Pienaar, as released by AOI for Music, Research and Innovation, Stellenbosch University.
