Celebrating Mozart, Matshikiza & Voudouris at Trevor Huddleston Memorial Centre

UPDATE: This past Sunday 7 March, NewMusicSA presented the first event of its 2021 Concert Series with a programme celebrating the anniversaries of composers WA Mozart, Todd Matshikiza and Dimitri Voudouris at the Trevor Huddleston Memorial Centre (THMC). More concerts are scheduled to take place from March through June 2021.

  • South African pianist Yonela Mnana
  • Trevor Huddleston centre

A piano trio comprising Yonela Mnana (piano), Waldo Alexander (violin & electronics) and Tiisetso Mashishi (viola) will be playing a selection of works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (belated 230th anniversary of death), Todd Matshikiza (100th anniversary of birth) and premiering a handful of new works by Dimitri Voudouris (60th birthday).
Taking place at the THMC in an original 1930s Sophiatown home which belonged to the late Dr. AB Xuma, ANC president, the concert will be presented in an ideal setting, especially given the special relationship that the centre had with Todd and Esme Matshikiza. Moreover, the THMC is the custodian of Todd Matshikiza‘s original piano, which will play again the music composed by its original owner.
The Trevor Huddleston Memorial Centre exists to inspire communities and young people, and enable them to live, realise and achieve their dreams and thrive with dignity. ‘We look forward to a meaningful and exciting partnership,’ says Joel Dikgole, THMC CEO.

The next concerts in the NewMusicSA series will take place through until June 2021. For details on dates, line-ups, and performance times, keep an eye on NewMusicSA’s website and Facebook page.
