Making art accessible:
MTN Foundation & Imbali partner for better arts education

The Imbali Artbooks: Adventuring into Art website is an exciting complementary addition to the books – an aspect of the partnership that the MTN Foundation was quite invested in making a reality. ‘The Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) amended ICT Charter from 2016 demands that South African telecommunications companies with foundations allocate most of their CSI budgets towards the development and provision of ICT solutions that will contribute to enhancing education and availing economic opportunities,’ says Nortje. ‘The MTN Foundation aims to provide this to the arts and culture sector by sponsoring the Imbali Artbooks: Adventuring into Art resource series website – an accessible, interactive, education-based digital platform which enhances arts training for teachers and avails economic opportunities for those who wish to pursue a career in practical artmaking.’

Teachers from the Gert Sibande District, in Mpumalanga, present their clay portraits at an MTN / Imbali teacher training workshop (2012)

The Imbali Artbooks: Adventuring into Art are an invaluable resource for educators, students and anyone interested in learning more about the arts in South Africa or in improving their visual literacy.
