- FNB Art Joburg 2020 will shift to an online platform
- Physical edition of FNB Art Joburg 2020 has been cancelled
- FNB Art Joburg online to take place 4 – 23 September, 2020
- The FNB Art Joburg online fair will embrace augmented reality (A/R) technology
Given the current COVID-19 global pandemic, FNB Art Joburg has taken the decision to cancel its physical event (previously scheduled for 3-6 September, 2020 at Sandton Convention Centre) and shift to an online, digital fair for its 13th edition.
FNB Art Joburg online will preview on 3 September and launch to the public the next day on 4 September, running for three weeks through 23 September. The online edition will be free and open to all.
‘Given the circumstances, we had to shift to an online edition,’ says FNB Art Joburg Founding Director Mandla Sibeko. ‘Though it may not look like our traditional format, we are embracing the possibilities presented by technology and will be introducing augmented and virtual reality exhibition experiences alongside a more traditional web platform. I look forward to this next chapter of African innovation and sharing more details with our audience very soon.’
‘FNB remains committed to supporting FNB Art Joburg and the creative economy. We are excited to take FNB Art Joburg online allowing more people to experience art through a digital and innovative channel. As we continue embracing this new form of “normality” we believe that this new chapter will provide a great platform for artists to explore the art discipline even more,’ says Bonga Sebosho, FNB Head of Brand Sponsorship.
The online edition will have two sections, the main section and the Gallery LAB. The Gallery LAB, introduced in 2019, will once again be curated by Nicole Siegenthaler and Banele Khoza.
Exhibitor list to follow in future announcement.
