Artist Relief Grants

Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) has expanded the scope of its Supporting Grants programme. While the existing opportunities for funding for arts organisations and business sponsors are still available, eligibility is now extended to support South African creatives infected or affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Supporting Grants programme offers a slightly different lens to conventional funding and development agencies in that our focus is normally on amplifying and extending existing partnerships between arts and businesses that aim to meaningfully impact society through shared value and social cohesion. However, the widespread cancellation of festivals, music concerts, exhibitions, productions and other events in the wake of COVID-19 is nothing anyone could have anticipated, and it’s clear that the impact on the creative sector will be devastating. To this end,  BASA will consider applications from individual artists for once-off, short-term financial aid for COVID-19-related medical care and/or prescription medicines. The aid can also be used to offset the loss of income due to the cancellation of confirmed engagements, as a result of the nationwide lockdown or other emergency measures.
