Name three artworks that you love and why.
I have a Pat Mautloa hanging in my house which was a birthday gift from a friend when I turned 40.
Anything by Gerard Sekoto.
And one day, I will own a piece by my friend Melissa Goba. She is an incredible artist.

Name one artist you would love to meet.
Bobby McFerrin.

What is in your car’s CD player?
CD player hahaha – that’s so 2010! On my playlist is a lot of everything. Bobby McFerrin, Marcus Wyatt, Tlale Makhene (love ‘Holili’), Ramsey Lewis (‘Sun Goddess’), Tutu Puoane (‘Mpho’), Zamajobe (‘Woza’), Zonke (‘Ngomso’), Will Downing (‘Déjà Vu’) and old-school RnB and, of course, everything amapiano.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d like to give myself balance, I work too hard. So I’m working on that this year.

How have the arts industries in South Africa changed over the last ten years?
Not much change really. Actually, things have taken a turn for the worse in SA.

Name one thing you think would improve the arts and culture industry in South Africa.
Finalisation of the White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage – we need a comprehensive policy and this process has been going for way too long.

What is your most treasured possession?
My son – he is not a possession, but Master K is the best thing since sliced bread.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Having no hope for tomorrow…

What is it that makes you happy?
God, family, friends, coffee, jazz, salad, wine – in that order.

Describe a defining moment in your life.
There are too many to count, but definitely being a mom and learning to allow myself room to fail – I’m a perfectionist and failure was never an option earlier on in my career. And when that happened, I had to learn to accept the failure and the life lessons it taught me.

What projects will you be busy with during 2020 and into 2021?
Learning to be a mom to a son in grade 1 – wow it’s really hard work.
At work, anything to profile DITSONG: Museums of South Africa and attract visitors to our amazing spaces.

Name one goal you would like to achieve in the next twelve months.
Learning to find balance and breathe…
