Director: Guy Nattiv Starring: Jamie Bell, Danielle Macdonald, Daniel Henshall
Inspired by the remarkable true story of Bryon Widner (Jamie Bell) and based on the 2011 critically acclaimed MSNBC documentary Erasing Hate, Skin is a potent dramatic study of redemption and reinvention from Academy Award-nominated director Guy Nattiv.
Raised by racist skinheads, Widner became notorious among white supremacists; his high rank in the gang, evidenced by the tattoos covering his face and body, landed him on the FBI’s Most Wanted list for his heinous hate crimes.
Life begins to change for Widner when he meets Julie Price (Danielle Macdonald) and her three young daughters. After falling in love with Price, Widner’s instincts ignite in him a burning desire to completely turn his back on his former ways and reinvent himself.
Widner quickly learns that leaving the cult may cost him his life and the lives of his newfound family. He endures death threats and harassment from his old gang while trying to turn his life around. With the help of the FBI and SPLC, Widner undergoes a series of brutal surgeries to remove the tattoos that tied him to his terrible past from his face and body.
Skin releases in select cinemas on 19 July 2019.
