The South African artist who is now based in Belgium, started touring South Africa from 1 March and will continue until 1 May 2019.
His tour kicked off on Friday 1 March with a free performance at The Playhouse Theatre in Durban.
Mijana Sibisi’s music can be described as a mixture of storytelling and Zulu folk sound. He considers himself as a social commentator and aims to be the voice of the people, using his music to spread real-life stories about happiness, but also touching on societal issues.
When asked what inspired him to organise this tour, Sibisi says:“I am inspired by musicians who I meet in Brussels, traveling around Europe and beyond, with their backpacks and musical instruments sharing their songs in every city they get to.”
When asked what to expect from his tour he says:“If you know me from before, you should expect a grown me in upcoming tour. I will perform new songs and the audience can also expect an experience instead of just a show. We are preparing a nice line up of pop, jazz and original music that evolve around the theme of migration.”
Joining him on this tour will be guitarist Milton Chissano and percussionist Njabulo Shabalala. Additionally, for The Playhouse performance Sibisi will also feature Doctor Vezi on bass guitar.
Sibisi, a qualified dental nurse, gave up his job in 2013, at the age of 22, to become a full-time musician. His career has definitely taken off since with performances throughout South Africa, but also in Belgium, France, Spain, Uganda and Reunion Islands.
In 2016 Sibisi entered The Voice and in the same year released his first EP titled History. He is currently working on in album which he plans to release later in the year.
Mbijana Sibisi’s Tour is supported by Concerts SA through the Music Mobility Fund, a funding mechanism which offers opportunities for South African musicians to undertake live music tours.
