The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sowetan vocal ensemble have collaborated to bring the Christmas Community Concert to Soweto. The concert takes place on 17 December 2018 at 14:00 at the Diepkloof Hall in Soweto and will be conducted by Eddie Clayton and Mohau Mogale.
The Johannesburg Philharmonic will be in full force and is donating its services free of charge when presenting this Christmas Concert that is becoming an annual event in Soweto. This concert is aimed at helping to promote community vocal talent and give the local singers the opportunity to perform with professional musicians as well as introducing new music to the communities around Johannesburg.
Mr. Bongani Tembe, the Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the JPO said: “Choral music plays an important role in South Africa, particularly in the black communities; it is a fantastic tool of bringing people together in happy and sad moments. Almost every village, township, school or church has a choir. The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to promote this genre of music and to help enhance the skills of choristers and conductors”.
The programme will consist of popular Christmas sing along carols to bring the people of Soweto into the festive season.
Entrance is free of charge.
