The popular festival terrain of the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival (KKNK) moves to the more centrally located Oudtshoorn and Vrede Street Sport Grounds in 2018.
This announcement was made by Rhodé Snyman, CEO of Kunste Onbeperk, the presenting company of the KKNK. According to Snyman this decision is the result of feedback from sponsors, festival goers and residents alike. “Sponsors and festival goers prefer a festival terrain centrally located to the heartbeat of the KKNK and therefore the new terrain, at the intersection of Voortrekker Road with Baron van Reede Street and Langenhoven Road, is ideal,” she says. Snyman further explains that there are no residential properties in this section of Vrede Street, which will be closed temporarily. As a result, inconvenience caused by temporary rigging will be less than in the past. She says festival-goers will experience everything they have become accustomed to in the festival terrain over the past eight years, and more. “Together with evening and daily music programmes, Liplekker with its deli and wine tastings, various stalls, bars and convivial rest areas, the ATKV-Speelbos also moves to this terrain. Speelbos offers hours of fun and enjoyment for youngsters, including Uitkampteater productions, interactive games and a music programme,” she says. The popular Arts Market will be set up on the Vrede Street Sport Grounds. This area is also home to the funfair and merry-go-round. Tickets to the terrain include access to all of these activities and entertainment. Entrances to the terrain will be in Voortrekker Road and Vrede Street. Gates will open at 10:00 in the morning. Any enquiries about the new terrain can be directed to email@example.com or 044 203 8600.
