Artvark Jazz Saxophone Quartet – Back by Popular Demand

Away with chairs! Away with music stands! Artvark moves! Artvark meanders through musical traditions and moves across the stage according to an improvised choreography. Artvark stands for innovative original compositions, strong individual soloists and the adventurous groove of four saxophones. Artvark thrills, stinks, growls and sizzles.

Rolf Delfos (alto sax), Bart Wirtz (alto sax), Mete Erker (tenor sax) and Peter Broekhuizen (baritone sax) mix their different backgrounds to a unanimous creative and original sound: the sound of Artvark!

The internationally recognised jazz saxophone quartet will be back in South Africa after sold out performances two years ago when they were part of the Unisa National Saxophone Symposium. Artvark played at major international festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Cairo Jazz Festival, the Bohemia Jazz Festival in Prague, Jazz Brugge and toured in Ireland, Turkey and South Africa.

This highly energetic, totally unique group will perform at the Miriam Makeba Hall on the Unisa main campus in April. Their concert will feature jazz quartet arrangements of well-known South African tunes, American jazz standards and some pop songs.

The concert takes place on Friday, 22 April 2016 at 19:30. Tickets are sold at the door for R110 (adults) and R85 (students and pensioners).
