The fourth edition of the ACT | UJ Conference, entitled #creativeintersections – An Interactive Experience – will interrogate “Interdisciplinarity” where delegates will be able to engage actively and practically in crossing the boundaries of disciplines. These ‘intersections’ will highlight new mediums, theories and connections, with discussions centering on interdisciplinary activities, intercultural dialogue and innovative technologies.
The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) through their Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) Programme, will create an opportunity for sponsored registrations to be available to creative practitioners who are uniquely positioned to make an impact on their communities by sharing information, skills and knowledge and to stimulate interdisciplinary thinking. Creative entrepreneurs, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises as well as representatives of arts and culture organisations who are interested in cultivating interdisciplinary and networking environments are eligible to apply.
“ACT and its partners acknowledge how difficult it might be for some creative practitioners and artists from across the country to attend the conference and we are excited about not only enabling some of these professionals to join the discourse but return to their communities to share some of the information gathered and knowledge gained at the 2-day #creativeintersections event”, explained Pieter Jacobs CEO of the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT).
The partnership with the MGE includes the presentation of free post-conference seminars in eight regions. Only some aspects of the conference will be presented at these engagements, which will be influenced by the selected facilitators’ skill set as well as the various workshops attended at the conference in Johannesburg on 16 and 17 March. These seminars will be presented by one or two of the sponsored delegates from the various regions. The conference is reaching out to the youth (18-35) and especially to all female practitioners to apply for sponsored passes.
In addition to access to all conference presentations, workshops, brainstorming breakaways, entertainment and catering, sponsored passes will include travel and accommodation for successful applicants from out of town.
Recipients of sponsored registrations will be entrusted to make the most of their conference attendance in terms of gathering information, networking, learning and interchanging ideas with other delegates with the view of making a contribution to their careers, businesses and organisations and the creative sector in general.
In an effort to extend the value of the conference, additional student passes will be significantly subsidised, with an aim of empowering the incoming generation of industry leaders.
The ACT | UJ Arts & Culture Conference is presented by the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) and UJ Arts & Culture in partnership with the Department of Arts & Culture’s Mzansi Golden Economy Programme and SAMRO Foundation with support from Creative Feel Magazine.
